The Neti Pot Experience

When plagued with the "experience" of being sick, one finds it a very miserable experience. However given a few things being sick is something that can actually be dealt with. While being sick is very inconvenient, it becomes rather difficult to manage when you just cannot breathe. When your nose is completely stuffed, and your lungs are full of mucus. LOL Speaking of mucus, I had a 6 year old patient in the hospital that told me in order for him to be able to go home he had to get all of the "people" out. I had no earthly idea of what he was talking about until he started to cough up stuff and he told his dad he got some of the "people out!" Thats someone who watched too many commercials. But back to what I was saying, I have tried Sudafed that you get behind the counter at the pharmacy, and i've tried Sudafed PE also known as phenylephrine and still no success in breathing. So I decided to to try my hand at the Neti Pot experience again, hoping that maybe that would get me some relief. For those of you who don't know what the Neti Pot is, let me tell you, it is an experience you will never forget.
The idea behind this little contraption is that you fill the little kettle up with warm water, pour in the little saline packets, and then you turn your head, stick it on one nostril, and ideally it should come out the other side. Ive done this before, and that was actually what happened, and while it feels like you jumped into a pool and forgot to plug your nose, it has brought me great relief before. Not this time! I there is no coming out the other side, there is juts too much in there! Last night i succeeded in giving myself multiple bloody noses, this time I didn't get much. So after once again trying to enjoy the experience that is the Neti pot, I guess I must just wait and pray the antibiotics I finally got started on today, will start to work soon. I'm thinking the odds of me making it to work tomorrow aren't very high. *sigh*
My mom came by today to bring my vitamins to make myself well. So every 2 hours since one today I have had to take pills. She called me every two hours for the first few til I got in the habit myself. She also did not like my messy bedroom, so she spent a good hour cleaning that while I lied on on my bed. Aren't moms great! Now if I can just wish this sickness gone, I have good plans on saturday to meet a really cute boy and by golly I don't want to miss it!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Neti Pot. I started using it about 8 months ago after a series of repeat sinus infections. Even if I am having bad allergies one morning I use it and it makes me feel better for a few hours. You should have someone who has used the Neti pot successfully before use one with you to see if you are doing it right and show you how they do it. I wouldn't mind. You have the dang thing, it would be nice to use it!
