Smile its almost Valentine's Day

That's right...

t

...And what better time to slit your wrists with the dull butter knife? That is reality. But all the the stores like to take advantage of the worst holiday of the year to smear it all over the remains of what used to be your heart. Ladies and gentleman, what I'll take upon myself to make you all aware of during the course of this warm and fuzzy 'Made-up-by-Hal-mark' holiday is something that no one in this world likes to face up to – the brutal truth.

That's right, people. Shut up your excuses, tie them with rope and duct take their carefully planned out distractive-yet-lame, long-winded stories of denial, because what I'm going to tell you isn't what you want to hear. Oh, Heavens no. It's exactly the opposite. And, if your glittery Valentine's Day pen is out and waving naively around the room, get out your notebook and get ready to take notes. And if you are ready to decorate house and every blank surface in your vicinity with nothing but superficial hearts and hopes of true, long-lasting love, well, then this blog is most definitely for you.

There's no doubt about it. Valentine's Day sucks. Everyone runs around frothing, proclaiming their love and pledging their eternal allegiance to one another. If someone truly cared about you, I think you'd hear it more often than once a year, presented with a heart shaped cardboard box picked up from CVS filled with cheap chocolates made with oils and lard and a card picked up for $2.95. This will supposedly cover all wrongs and faults in the relationship with one fell swoop, leaving the giver allieved of all sins committed within the past year. Don't get me wrong. I'm not a single young woman bent on giving grief to everyone else who is in a relationship. I'm a stark realist. But I do want someone to tell me if I'm loved of their own volition, not because some fabricated greeting card holiday sponsored by Hallmark compels them.

Okay you're right. I'm cynical. Sue me. Ask me what I've gone through, and then maybe that eyebrow you've escalated will come down a few notches. But this, my friends, is my 2009 Black Valentines Day rant for those of you out there still happy. I'm afraid I'm throwing you a cold eye roll and a 'Don't worry, it won't last' in your still hopeful direction. I don't mean to be such a glittering ray of sunshine. But its hard when since the day Christmas was over they have blasted us with Valentines everywhere. Enough already!

Yeah, the stores go overboard for every holiday or special occasion. When one ends the shelves are filled with the next holidays decorations and goodies as if the previous one never happened. Anyway, BJ and I are actually gonna be in Oklahoma that weekend without the kids to do.....MOVING! We are finally clearing out his Grandfather's house with his parents, and staying in a shared hotel room too (but it has an up and down stairs room). Fun fun huh?! We actually don't mind because we won't bother ourselves with spending/wasting money on cards, candies, or a dinner. Married or not, some years it is nice to have a break. Then who knows what next year will bring.

I guess everyone is obilgated to be happy and perky 365 days a year, but there are just certain days when I want to be cynical but please point it out whenever possible and by all means hide behind the anonymous feature so that no one has to know who you are.

I agree that the people that love me don't need one specific day, created by candy, flower and greeting card industries, to tell me that they love me. They have every day of the year to do that. Valentine's Day is just an excuse for girls to want someone to spend a ton of money on them and a reason to get mad when they don't. And to the "anonymous" comment poster, if you're going to be rude to a person at least have the balls to say who you are or say it to her face :)

I agree...I think you should block anonymous message on your blog all together.
Dean doesn't like Valentine's Day either, I don't hate it but I do think that you don't need a special day for people to tell you that they love you and are grateful for you in their lives.

ha, okay so Chris has been saying something to that extent ever since we got married. I still make him get me a card or something but that's just because I like an excuse to make him express his feelings :) It doesn't happen much. But I do forbid him to buy me flowers because that's just a rip off!

I think that "V-Day" is nice when you have someone. When you don't, why should you celebrate it? "Yay! I love myself SO much! Im going to buy myself some flowers and chocolates...because I'm in love with MYSELF!!!" (OR because we don't want to feel alone, left out, etc.) There IS a difference between a negative, pessimist and a down-to-earth, REALIST. People may be uncomfortable around "these types". Nobody likes to be uncomfortable, so people may insult, cut down and snub the realist in hopes that they (the "dreamers", etc) may feel a bit better for ridding the world of the little, black storm cloud. Well, this just in...I would much rather have occasional shade from a cloud than be burnt to a crisp by trying to live on the sun. IMPOSSIBLE.
Anywho...the main point...get over yourselves and get a life.
Word.

I just think its rediculous that one day a year should be the day that everyone is supposed to show love by buying pointless gifts. Does that mean the rest of the year you can be a douche to your loved ones and they can't say anything because that one pointless day in February you bought them some chocolate and a plastic rose from the gas station? How about we show love all year long and February 14th could be the day that you get to be a jerk.. hmm that sounds much much better! That way those without a 'significant other' aren't faced with the hearts and candy and other BS that apparently is the logo for people in love.
