My job

There are days that I love my job, I know it doesn't seem like it cause I always dread going into work, but there really are days that I love my job. But there also are days when I really and truly hate my job. I think today would be classified as one of those days. I got to work and found out that I had a "3 to 1" assignment. That pretty much means that there are only 3 patients to one nurse, which is both a good and bad thing. Good because you won't be having to take any more patients, but bad because that usually means one of the patients is pretty bad. That seemed to most definitely be the case with one of my patients tonight. He has been in the hospital for a month, mostly in the ICU for septic shock. He had finally made it to our floor about 2 days ago, but had been having all sorts of problems. I got to be the lucky person to get him tonight who he decides to crap out on me. lol It really wasn't funny at the time, but I guess I can do nothing but laugh because I seem to be somewhat cursed when it comes to working. This is my second kid to stop breathing on me. But I guess I am getting practice, I don't know. I can't say im any better at it the second time around, but this is not something I really care to be good at. I would just be content if all my kids continued to breath while I was working. It just makes me night go a lot better. This one at least didn't require chest compressions, he just dropped to an oxygen saturation in the 50's and needed to be bagged. No big deal right? At least he is down in the ICU again, hopefully he will get better one on one care. Poor baby! And as if that wasn't bad enough, I got another baby later in the shift who came up from the ER in severe respiratory distress. I had had like so many people in there with me offering opinions and finally we had the ICU doctor come up and assess him. When he saw me again, he asked me if I had a black cloud hanging over my head tonight. I told him that I thought that may be the case. I tried asking the charge nurse if I could just go home and sleep and start over again tomorrow but of course that didn't get to happen. So I only have 3 hours left in my shift, and then I get to come back again and do this fun stuff all over again tonight! I can't wait!

This made me laugh

A blonde had just totaled her car in a horrific accident.
Miraculously, she managed to pry herself from the wreckage without a scratch.

"Wow!" the trooper gasped. "Your car looks like an accordion that was stomped on by an elephant.

Are you OK ma'am?"

"Why, yes, officer, I'm just fine" the blonde chirped.

"Well, how in the world did this happen?" the officer asked as he surveyed the wrecked car.

"Officer, it was the strangest thing!" the blonde began. "I was driving along
this road when from out of nowhere this tree popped up in front of me. So I
swerved to the right, and there was another tree! I swerved to the left and
there was another tree! I swerved to the right and there was another tree!
I swerved to the left and there was...."

"Uh, ma'am", the officer said, cutting her off as he looked inside the car,
"There isn't a tree on this road for 30 miles. That was your air freshener swinging back and forth."

For those of you who know me, know that I absolutely love Angelina Jolie. She is, to me, simply amazing. She is beautiful, as she appears to have no fear. She is a mother of six and she is a UN goodwill ambassador, and while she may be a movie star, she has done some good things with her life lately. I like the Angelina of today, not the person she used to be. She was a tad out of control back in the day, but the Angelina of today is pretty amazing.

"As a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador, Angelina uses her status as a superstar to generate media coverage about the plight of refugees and the conditions under which they live. She has traveled widely to remote refugee camps and receiving centers in countries including Tanzania, Namibia, Cambodia, Pakistan, Thailand, and Ecuador. To further raise awareness, she has released her personal journals for select field visits that can be accessed at USA for UNHCR. For her efforts, Angelina has been honored with the Church World Service Immigration and Refugee Program Humanitarian Award."

Along with being a movie start and a UN ambassador, Angelina is the mother to 6 children. 3 that she has adopted and 3 that she has given birth to. She has Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh and she recently just gave birth to Knox and Vivienne. The rights for the first pictures of her twins were sold to People and Hello! for 14 million dollars-the most expensive pictures ever taken. The money went to the Jolie/Pitt foundation. Many people criticize Angelina for how many children she has, but I think that she is doing a great thing, especially for how many she has adopted. She was once heard to have said that she wanted to have enough kids to have a football team.

Angelina has been talked about a lot because of the number of tattoos she has. Jolie's inventory of tattoos has become the subject of much media attention and has often been addressed by interviewers. Jolie stated that, while she is not opposed to film nudity, the large number of tattoos on her body has forced filmmakers to become more creative when planning nude or love scenes. Make-up has been used to cover up the tattoos in many of her productions. Jolie currently has 13 known tattoos, among them the Tennessee Williams quote "A prayer for the wild at heart, kept in cages", which she got together with her mother, the Arabic language phrase "العزيمة" (strength of will), the Latin proverb "quod me nutrit me destruit" (what nourishes me destroys me), and a Yantra prayer written in the ancient Khmer and Pali scripts for her son Maddox. She also has four sets of geographical coordinates on her upper left arm indicating the birthplaces of her children. Over time she covered or lasered several of her tattoos, including "Billy Bob", the name of her former husband Billy Bob Thornton, a Chinese character for death (死), and a window on her lower back; she explained that she removed the window, because, while she used to spend all of her time looking out through windows wishing to be outside, she now lives there all of the time.

This inspires me

Sorry, I seem to be carrying on tonight, but for a person to seems to have a lack of idea of what to blog about tonight I am not lacking ideas. I have my homepage on my computer set to igoogle. And one of the applications I added was the Ansel Adams photograph of the day. Those of you who knows me know Im not much the appreciator of art. I don't always get art, or maybe it doesn't get me. Whatever the case may be, there has always been something about Ansel's black and white pictures of nature that move me. It's not really something I can place into words other than they leave me in aw, they truly are amazing.

It makes me happy

I know what you are thinking, its childish, and cheesy and yet there is nothing that can bring an instant smile to my face quite like this show. I know its filled with cheesy adult language that would never grace the lips of a 15 year old's mouth. But there is something found within the emotions of the relationships of these silly hormone plagued teenagers that elicits feelings in me no other.

A few quotes, maybe you will see what I mean:

"As much as you want to, you can't rely on someone else to make you feel alive. It's an inside job"
-Michelle Williams as Jen Lindley

"You could spend your whole life looking for perfect love, and i promise you, you'll never find it. It's because love isn't perfect! Everyone is flawed, including you."
-Kerr Smith as Jack McPhee

"Never forget what you mean to each other, of the effect you have on each others lives...because friendship can never really be over or under estimated."
-Michelle Williams as Jen Lindley

"[to Joey, about Pacey] You want him. You want him like I want you. You love him, like I love you. The only difference is he loves you back, the same way... and you deserve that, OK? And I'm not gonna be the one who stands in the way of you getting that... You're free, you can do whatever you want."
-James Van Der Beek as Dawson Leery

I know I know im pathetic what can I say? But I love this show, always will. I own all the seasons, im starting over from the beginning, just finished disc one of season one. And the smiles haven't stopped. This is such a good show!!!

So this is life

So I have always liked to blog, its a very therapeutic when you have issues and just need to "talk" about them, but Ive always been content to just blogging on myspace. I know lots of people who have these blogs, but they are all married, most of them with kids, and so they have something worth while to blog about. I have neither. I have just me. I am 28 years old and I find myself once again single. This is in no way the life I had planned for myself. Some people plan to have a career, but it was never something I really wanted for myself. It was just something I was supposed to do. I had a hard time picking a major in school when I first started out. I always seemed to be the person my friends came to for giving advice, so I thought that I would want to have a career in psychology. I was never a big fan of BYU, probably because that was what "everyone" did, and I have never been one to follow the norm. So I decided I would go to Rick's college. I had a aunt and uncle who lived up in Rexburg and my grandfather once taught auto mechanics there, so I decided to take a different path and went to Ricks. After being there for a year and taking a psychology class and an intro to counseling class, I decided that psychology wasn't for me, there were too many rules and restrictions "don't cross your legs when you are talking to a patient, it makes them feel you are closed off to them." That was ridiculous to me I just wanted to help people, and this wasn't the way I wanted to do it. It seemed like everyone who was in that field had a few too many mental problems themselves. So then I had to figure out what I wanted. I always wanted to the medical field, so I thought about Social Work, but then I found out there was no money to be made in that field. So that was out of the question. I thought about becoming a pharmacist. That was in the medical field, but it wasn't as long as a doctor, but I had worked in a pharmacy before, and I could not go to school for 5 years just to count pills all day. Although the money was good, that just wasn't right for me. At that point I had finished two years of school, I got my associates from Ricks and moved back to Texas to figure out what my next step was. I lived at home for about 9 months and then decided to move out with my grandparents in Utah, thinking I would be happier living closer to my friends from school. I lived in Utah for another 8 months, and I was no more happier there than at home. I was tired of thinking the grass was greener on the other side I needed to just pick a place and make the best of it. My dad also told me he was tired of driving from utah/idaho and back and that I was not to move again lol. So while I was in utah i decided I wanted to become a nurse, it was in the medical field and it didn't require nearly as much school as a doctor. So I came home enrolled in community college took a years worth of classes and applied to nursing school. Lucky for me, despite there being hundreds of applicants and only 40 students accepted I was one of the lucky that got in. And so began the next two years of my life, or really lack there of. I ate, drank and slept nursing school. It was one of the hardest things I ever have done in my life to this point. I remember thinkin that I was going to be done with school a month before i turned 25 years old. That was so old! Surely I would be well on my way to be getting married by then. Boy I couldn't have been more wrong. I had no life during those 2 years, if I wasn't doing school, I was thinking and worrying about school, there was never a time it wasn't on my mind, even when I was taking a break. I had decided while going through school that I didn't like caring for adults, I really like working for kids, and I really enjoyed the time I had spend doing my clinical rotations at the hospital Medical City Dallas. So when I finished I knew that was where I wanted to work, but unfortunately for me, they didn't have an internship the month following my graduation. So I decided to continue to work for CareNow the urgent care place I had worked all though nursing school, only now I would work as a nurse. It didn't pay nearly as much as the hospital, but I learned invaluable things while working there. After a year Medical city finally offered a pediatric internship and I applied and was accepted. So that is where I have been working for almost 3 years now. I work the night shift from 7pm to 7am. I bought my own house 2 years ago, and here I am. I am 28 years old, I have a great job, great house, great car, and yet this is not how I pictured my life. But its the path I am on, so I am learning to accept it and make the best of it. This is my life. My crazy, never ending, never wrecking thing called life.
